Emotions Behind The Words

What are the emotions behind your words.

Stage Door 1937 America Tragic/comedy movie tells the story of several aspiring New York Broadway actresses living in a boarding house
and their successes, failures and tragic disappointments. Starring Katherine Hepburn, Ginger Rogers, Lucille Ball, Eve Arden, Ann Miller.

Terry Randall (Katherine Hepburn) is so wooden in rehearsal for the play ‘Enchanted April’
that the plays producer Powell (Adolphe Menjou) tries to get out of his secret contract with
Henry Sims (Samuel S. Hinds),
Terry Randall’s father.

On opening night Terry Randall learns that her friend and fellow boarding house roommate, Kay Hamilton (Andrea Leeds) who was last year’s broadway sensation, who lived to play this part has taken
her own life due to poverty and frustration.

Overwhelmed with grieve the actress Terry Randall must go on for the tradition of the theater,
but also more importantly for her late friend Kay.

Terry Randall goes on giving a heartfelt performance almost ignoring the entire script, but capturing the essence of the emotional moments of the play in her own words.

“Hello mother. Hello father.
The calla lilies are in bloom again.
Such a strange flower, suitable for any occasion.
I carried them on my wedding day, and now I place them here in memory of something that has died…

Have you gathered  here to mourn or are you here to bring me comfort? I’ve learned something about love that I never knew before. You speak of love when it is too late. Help should come to people when they need it. Why are we so helpful to each other when it no longer any use?…

This is my home. This is where I belong.
Love was in this house once and for me it will always be here, no where else…

One should listen always listen closely when people say goodbye because sometimes they’re, they’re really saying farewell”

All of her dialogue was improvised.
The Hollywood film version ends in success
for one actress, failure for another, as Terry Randall and the play become the season’s latest hit.
Express the meaning behind the words.

Sometimes you have to listen to the meaning behind the words, for example:

The new novice nun entered a silent convent where you were only allowed to speak two words per year.
On the anniversary of her first cloistered year
she told her mother superior “Bed Hard”
On the anniversary of her second year
she told mother superior “Food Bad”
On the anniversary of her third year
she told her mother superior “I Quit”

Sometimes you have to listen to the meaning behind the words.
