For example, in 1947 while standing outside the broadway theater where his play “All My Sons”,
was being performed, Arthur Miller ran into his Uncle.
“All My Sons” is a dramatization of a true story
in three acts with an underlying theme of guilt and responsibility of a manufacturer of war materials whose substandard and defective airplanes parts caused the death of his own son as well as other fliers during World War II.
His uncle began the conversation by telling Arthur Miller about the success Arthur’s cousin was having in plumbing supply, however when he finally stopped to ask Arthur “What are you doing here?”
Arthur replied he was the playwright for
“All My Sons”, which was being performed
in the theater behind him.
Arthur Miller said “That was the first time
he heard his name Arthur Miller in quotations.
You mean you are that “Arthur Miller”.
This brief conversation gave Arthur Miller
the inspiration to write ‘Death Of A Salesman’.
In Death Of A Salesman an over the hill salesman faces a personal turning point when he loses
his job and attempts to make peace with his family.
